High quality waste containers must have a lid attached to the body by a double hinge, and a strong, easy-to-clean handle.

The main features required are strength and the provision of an anti-scavenging device: outdoor bins cannot be tipped over or opened by stray animals. The lid locks when the handle is placed vertically or on the front of the bin. However, this device is not a hindrance when emptying the bin as the handle folds to the back and the lid opens automatically.

	The containers can also be fitted with a bar code or transponder: a computer collects information each time the bin is emptied to calculate charges based on the number of times the bin is emptied. This system is already used by a number of local councils across Italy, with excellent results.
